The article I read involved a company named Zippi Networks Inc. They are an applications company that is focused on delivering entertainment, gaming, and social networking Apps for today's mobile lifestyle. Zippi announced positive trending of both downloads and advertising impressions. The company also announced current ad impressions served at this midway point in the month of December, has more than doubled the combined impressions of past months which show over a 100 percent increase, or 143,696 impressions as of Dec. 16. They said they owe much of their success to a new I-Phone news alert app. The CEO of the company went on to say that the company’s goal is to achieve a blend of monetization components, adding new upgrades and delivering new apps to the marketplace, driving apps into higher number ranks in iTunes, and creating a social media buzz or frenzy, of downloads to particular apps. With Total global mobile marketing and
advertising expenditures projected to grow from $8.8 billion in 2010 to nearly $15.8 billion in 2012, it is important that Zippi stay ahead of the curve with advertising. They are already making good strides getting into apps. for Smartphones, but they will need to stay on the top of the latest trends to ensure company success over the long haul.
The FCC is ready to approve Net Neutrality rules tomorrow. The rules essentailly prohibit ISP's from blocking any legal content on the internet, or content from their competitors. There is language in the establishing allowances for reasonable network management.
Over the summer Google proposed a two-tier internet in which wired access would remain open, but wireless would be subject to the whims of the provider. The FCC's rules appear to mostly reject that proposal, and favor an open internet regardless of the type of connection.

Mobile Marketing Through SMS: Yes You Can...and Profitably (12HoursOfTech) - EZ Texting's Shane Neman
http://smallbiztechnology.com/archive/2010/07/mobile-marketing-through-sms-y.html
In this article is about marketing through texting. Shane Newman of EZ Texting views text marketing just as any other form of marketing…print, TV , radio etc. This type of marketing has a broad reach and is cheapest to setup.
The hardest part of SMS marketing is getting people to sign up. They can be attracted by coupons or sales related messages. Once you have acquired customers you can keep them engaged with voting and polling. He states continues by saying that a good rule to follow is to not text someone more than once every two weeks unless you offer them something like a coupon.
The article continues to describe rules of the trade, the ease of this type of marketing, and how EZ Texting can help your company market via texting. In addition he states that text marketing will help open up you to mobile marketing as a whole.
This article has some insight and advice worth using in a text campaign.
MOBILE MARKETING ASSOCIATION TO BUILD MOBILE PRIVACY GUIDELINES
The MMA (Mobile Marketing Association) today announced the launch of an initiative focused on the development of a comprehensive set of mobile privacy guidelines to complement its already well-established Global Code of Conduct. The objective of these guidelines is to address the growing need for marketers and consumers to have a transparent, accepted understanding as to how consumer information is collected and used for the purposes of relevant value exchange within a mobile marketing context and across market sectors.

I recently found out about a new app called Foursquare. That allows followers to check into places, and let others know where their at. In return followers can get special perks for checking in such as coupons and discounts. The designers of Foresquare have made it a challenge that participants can build points by checking in. This is a new avenue that marketers can take advantage of in promoting their stores and restaurants as it allows them to interact with their customers through social interactions.

Commerce Department Calls for Online Privacy Rights
The Commerce Department has called for an "online bill of rights" to be created, including the option to "opt out" of at least some information collection.
This obviously could have a chilling effect on internet marketing, as the ability to tailor ads to the interests of consumers is a major part of internet advertising's allure.
However, it is good for industry (and consumers, in my opinion) that this is being dealt with within the Commerce Department. Hopefully, this will allow for a balanced approach that will protect consumers from blatant privacy invasions while allowing ad-supported content on the web to remain free to consumers.
The day when near field communication (NFC) will help replace plastic credit cards, coupons and loyalty program cards with a wave of a phone at a payment terminal has been long anticipated.
Wireless NFC technology enables devices, including mobile phones and payment terminals, to communicate with one another or read special tags

According to Mogreet's Q3 2010 Mobile Marketing Analytics Report, over 88% of MMS messages were viewed outside of the top 10 metro areas. It also predict that Samsung will become No.1 smartphone player by growth of Android and the mobile advertising market will reach $2.5 billion in 2011.These will be another trend that MMS cannibalize SMS and take more share in mobile advertising.
